Annual investment in Renaissance by central government will reach £48.7m a year by 2010, representing a £300m boost to the sector since its inception. This investment has not only changed museums but, crucially, the public's experience of museums: the strapline for Renaissance is 'museums for changing lives' and the ability of museums to enhance people's understanding of their own lives and the lives of others continues to be a core part of the programme's vision.
Renaissance is responsible for many initiatives that are making the most of the scholarship, professional skills and public treasures that are housed in England’s museums, including:
Nine Regional Museum Hubs set up across the country which deliver high quality programmes to the broadest possible users
The Museum Development Fund which offers an important resource for museums across the country through the Museum Development Officer Network
The Subject Specialist Networks which have brought curators and other experts together to share knowledge in a number of different areas
The Designation challenge fund that supports regional museums with collections of outstanding national or international importance
The Hub, MLA East of England, and the Museum Development Officer Network are all key players in Renaissance East of England.
